Algorithmic Textiles Design: Sewing Project

In this project, you will engage with algorithmic sewing design and/or CNC sewing fabrication at quilt scale or embroidery scale.

The Engineering Part

Write code to generate a sewing or embroidery pattern.

or

Build a machine or device to assist wholly or partially in the sewing or embroidery process.

The Artful Part

Consider what your software or generated pattern implies about the state of the world, what it encourages or discourages, or the sensations that it provokes in a user/viewer. Remember that material, construction, and process can be leveraged to add layers of meaning.

What To Turn In

• Before Class: photograph or screenshot your creation(s); create a copy of any input or aoutput files used; write a paragraph or two about what you set out to do and whether you succeeded or failed. Upload all of these things to a sub-folder named with your andrewid of this google drive folder. NOTE: use your @andrew account to access. NOTE2: make a sub-folder, don't upload a zip file.
• During Class: Be ready to discuss, using the materials in your drive folder.
