Warp Snake

Warp Snake, a game for the first weekly game assignment by Karen Liu.

Goal

I wanted a snake game where the user faces a challenging game board and uses available tools to avoid walls.

Method

The game is like a normal snake game, where the snake is continually eating and growing, but uses warpholes that the snake can travel through to reach other parts of the board. The disadvantage of the warpholes is that they have a timeout period, which kills the snake if they time out while the snake is traveling through. This makes the game progressively more difficult as the snake gets longer.

Novelty

The novel part of this game is the ability to warp from one part of the board to another. Otherwise, it's a typical snake game.

Results

The challenge of the game turned out to be very dependent on the board setup. If the board is too empty, the player can easily just avoid the wormholes altogether. In addition, there are only two warpholes, which limits their usefulness. I think that further board design (so that the player has to use warpholes to travel between sections) as well as the ability to limit where the warpholes are placed (so the player never gets stuck) can make the game more fun.
