Galaxy Destroyer

Galaxy Destroyer, a game for the first project by Zeyang Li(Linus).

Goal

I want the user to feel the fragility of life, the cruelty of the universe, and the total indifference of god toward its "creation".

Method

The user controls a blackhole by dragging his mouse. The blackhole will emit gravity that pull surrounding objects toward it. Galaxies kept being generated randomly, and occasionally white holes are generated. As the blackhole eats more galaxies, it grows bigger, but when it eats a white hole, it shrinks. The blackhole grows faster if it eats bigger galaxy, and shrinks faster if it bigger white holes.

Novelty

The novelty lies in the use of physics in a collect-and-dodge game.

Results

The game did not quite fulfill my expectation. The plan was to make a game that exploits magnetism. The player could move around a magnet and uses it to collect floating metal pieces, and occasionally other magnets. The magnet will be less effective as it collects more metal, due to the rapid falloff of magnetic field, but when it collects other magnets, the connected magnets have enhanced magnetism. But I ran into problems with computing magnetic field and collision detection. So this is a watered down version of the same idea
