Assignment 3: Animating with Captured Data
With a partner, create a short animation (of at least 300 frames) that uses capture data to create an animation. The finished piece must experiment with content, form or technique in some way, that you will discuss at the crit. We expect this assignment to require at least 25 hours of effort from each team member.
Available technologies include:
-
The motion capture lab in Wean 1324
-
The dome in the basement of NSH
-
The motion capture equipment in the new Hunt Media Lab
-
Motion Capture Database
-
Kinect 2 (available for checkout from IDeATe)
-
Rotoscoping
Some free models are available from these sites:
-
Nelson Hurst Some free, some not.
-
Highend 3D
We will tour the first two facilities to see demos of the equipment in
operation. You do not need to use the captured data in the traditional
ways. For example, the motion capture data need not be used to drive a
human figure. For human motion a basic rigged character will be provided
for possible use and other models are freely available on the web.
The motion can be imported into Maya, Unity, or other available software.
